Gasquet turns back years for Auckland win

Richard Gasquet beat Cameron Norrie 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the ASB Classic in Auckland on Saturday to claim his 16th ATP Tour title.

The 36-year-old Frenchman, beginning his 20th year on the tour, was clearly the underdog against Norrie, but bounced back from a set down to deny the Brit, who was raised in New Zealand, a ‘home’ win.

Gasquet, who now faces a tough first-round clash against countryman Ugo Humbert at Melbourne Park on Monday, has reached the Australian Open fourth round four times.

A win would then see him up against Nick Kyrgios.
