Former player Peter Lundgren, who coached Roger Federer to his first Wimbledon title in 2003 has died, his family confirmed on Friday.
The hard rock-loving Swede who introduced the young Federer to AC/DC back in the day, had been suffering with diabetes and underwent amputation of a foot due to infection in 2023.
Lundgren worked with Federer from 2000-2023, guiding the Swiss to the first of his 20 Grand Slam singles titles in 2003; the pair parted ways at the ATP Finals in Houston just four months later.
Lundgren, who peaked at a ranking 25th, competed on the ATP from 1983 to 1995, reaching the Australian Open doubles final in 1988 and the Wimbledon singles fourth round in 1987.
He won ATP titles in San Francisco, Rye Brook, and Cologne.
Lundren’s coaching career included stints with temperamental Chilean Marcelo Rios as well as Marat Safin (2005 Australian Open champion), Swiss Stan Wawrinka, Grigor Dimitrov and Daniela Hantuchova.
