Federer Laver decision will be last-minute

The Dream team of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic may or may not happen next weekend in London at the Laver Cup.

With 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer announcing his retirement this week due to lingering effects from three knee surgeries which have not put the 41-year-old totally right, the presence of the Swiss icon on court will be a last-minute decision.

While admitting that his knee is no longer fit for ATP service, Federer would certainly like nothing better than to take to the court  at the hybrid event conceptualised by his management company in 2017.

Federer’s longtime trainer Pierre Paganini said the Swiss will decide whether he can play a match or two closer to Friday’s start of the three-day event.

“This will probably be a last-minute decision,” he said.

“Roger has trained in a way that he could gather as much information about whether it is a good idea or not.

“I’m excited.”
