Roger Federer will make a post-retirement tennis appearance at October’s Shanghai Masters, officials announced on Monday.
The 41-year-old Swiss who retired last September, won the tournament in 2014 and 2017 and enjoys icon status with Chinese fans.
Organisers in China’s commercial capital plan to honour the Swiss as ICON Athlete of the event bankrolled by Geneva’s Rolex watch firm.
The plan to attend the event which begins during China’s main holiday weekend on October 2 will be a rare sighting of the legend in a tennis environment.
