Fan fury as livescore app is axed

Tennis fans have used social media to criticise the ATP and the WTA for axing the live scores app.

Both bodies said a change to the data feed process meant the app was no longer viable and a statement directed fans to individual apps run separately by the ATP and WTA.

“The ATP and WTA have announced the discontinuation of the ATP/WTA Live Scores App across all mobile and desktop platforms. As a result of changes made to the data feed, the app is no longer able to support the technical requirements of both the ATP and WTA,” the statement said.

“From today, mobile users will be redirected to the official ATP App, the home of ATP Live Scores which offers an enhanced user experience, and to a dedicated WTA Live Scoring page on http://wtatennis.com.

“The ATP and WTA remain committed to exploring opportunities for alignment across digital products.”

Many fans accused the governing bodies of double standards after both have declared a willingness to work together during 2020.

One fan criticised Novak Djokovic saying in a tweet: “Instead of Djokovic fighting for the PTPA he should be getting everyone together to get livescoreapp back.”

Alternatives for fans include Resultina which is available on Apple and Android phones, but it is subscription-based and costs about $17.99 for 12 months.
