Error-prone Raducanu loses again

Emma Raducanu suffered another early exit, losing to Katerina Siniakova in the second round of the Miami Open on Thursday 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Raducanu converted just five of 17 break-points and made a number of mistakes in an error-prone match.

The World No. 53 Siniaková was on top form late in the game, after overcoming a rib injury, and credited her victory to her fighting spirit.

“For me I think I was fighting more with myself than my opponent,” Siniakova said afterwards.

“I just went for it and I was just working very hard. I’m just so happy it worked.”

Raducanu reeled off four points to move into a 4-1 lead in the opening set, which she eventually won, before Siniakova bounced back to take the second.

Raducanu broke Siniakova’s serve in the opening game of the third set, but Siniakova would stayed the course and fought back to 2-2.

Raducanu then broke again in the seventh game, but she double faulted on Siniakova’s break point.

From there Siniakova didn’t look back and converted her first break point as Raducanu hit a loose backhand long to take the match in just under three hours.
