Emma’s first year on tour

British number one, Emma Raducanu, has now played a full 12 months at the top of the game. She is a rookie no more. Any tournaments she plays from now on could see her drop down the rankings with poor results.

Her first tournament was the Nottingham Open, which she competes in today. Last year she lost in the first round to Harriet Dart.

Raducanu has completed 20 tournaments, with 17 of those at WTA or grand slam level. Her best results were a win in the US Open, and a fourth round at Wimbledon.

She also managed a final in Chicago, and an encouraging quarterfinal in Stuttgart.

The year has been fraught with drama, with coaching changes, injuries, and sponsorship deals. Raducanu now has her first full tour year under her belt, and can build and reflect upon it.

The 19-year-old will be defending 240 points at the upcoming Wimbledon, the first big challenge to keep her world number 11 ranking.

Emma Raducanu wins women’s final of the 2021 US Open.
