The 21-year-old has had nothing but problems since her New York miracle of three years ago, bogged down by injuries, surgeries and frequent coaching changes.
She began showing progress by reaching the Wimbledon fourth round and lost a quarter-final last week in Washington to eventual champion Paula Badosa.
The Brit’s camp rolled the dice on skipping qualifying for this week’s Toronto Masters, with the player going empty when it came to main draw wild cards.
With Cincinnati apparently out of the frame, there are now two and a half weeks without a match looming before the August 26 start at Flushing Meadows.
Her lone hope would be a place in Cincy qualifying this coming weekend.
