Garbine Muguruza went back for seconds in her series with Aryna Sabalenka, with the Spanish seed winning her second match in as many weeks in the series on Thursday in Dubai.
Tournament No. 9 Muguruza, losing finalist at the weekend in Doha, had defeated her opponent from Belarus in the second round eight days ago.
She repeated the feat here to advance 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 into the semi-finals, sending down seven aces and breaking five times in just under two hours.
The Spaniard will be playing her third semi-final at the Aviation Club after 2015 and 2018.
The former Roland Garros and Wimbledon winner will next face off against Belgian 10th seed Elise Mertens. who saved three match points to defeat Jessica Pegula in their quarter-final.
Muguruza said she made an adjustment and stepped up her attack after dropping the opening set against Sabalenka.
“In the first set I struggled to find my shots and may game. She was playing faster and serving bigger.
“In the second I was able to play more aggressive and dominant. Everything felt more equal then.
“In the third I just stuck with what had been working, I felt that was a good game plan.
“I always feel that I have what it takes to beat anyone. I don’t think there is one dominant player at the moment, everyone is dangerous.”
