World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Indian Wells Masters tournament, which begins today.

His decision to withdraw was because of the entry ban on unvaccinated foreign nationals currently in place in the US.

The Serb last month applied for a special compensation to enter the US in order to play at the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments.

A statement from the tournament read: “World No.1 Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the 2023 BNP Paribas Open. With his withdrawal, Nikoloz Basilashvili moves into the field.”
