Novak Djokovic fears that the knock on the head he suffered Friday night may have led to a listless Sunday loss at the Rome Masters.
The six-time Foro Italico champion went down 6-2, 6-3 to Toronto-born Chilean Alejandro Tabilo in just 67 minutes, exiting in the third round..
The world no. 1 Serb was treated at hospital after the incident less than 48 hours earlier when a metal water bottle hit him on the head as he signed autographs after a routine win.
The top seed said his entire body fe;lt slightly off during Sunday’s loss to Tabilo, who played junior tennis for Canada before switching to Chile.
“The way I felt on the court today was just completely like a different player entered into my shoes,” 24-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic said
“Just no rhythm, no tempo, no balance whatsoever on any shot – it’s a bit concerning.
“I just wasn’t able to find any kind of good feelings on the court, to be honest, with striking the ball. Yeah, I was completely off.”
Djokovic said he will now go for medical scans to see what if any damage the bottle accident provoked.
The third-round loss was his earliest here since he first played the Rome main draw in 2007.
