Djokovic takes the hard road to Geneva semis

Novak Djokovic continued his fast-track buildup to Roland Garros on Thursday, saving four set points before finally pulling out a 7-5, 6-1 defeat of Tallon Greikspoor at the Geneva Open.

The world No. 1 who has yet to claim an ATP title this season, made his way into the semi-finals at one of the final events before the French Open start on Sunday.

The Serb who will be playing in his 98th career semi-final, now owns the Dutchman 4-0 in their series.

“The first set could have gone his way easily because he was the better player for most of the first set,” Djokovic said.

“I was facing 0/40 at 5-4 for him, so we could have been having a completely different direction of the match if he converted those set points.” 

The winner who is playing the Swiss 250 tournament for the first time finally won the opener two games later and extended his dominance to sweep the to victory.

“I was lucky to find some really good serves and from that moment onwards really played some good, solid tennis,” the winner said.

I think I played the second set was really good.”

Djokovic saved seven break points while converting on four of his own opportunities against his opponent’s serve.

The 37-year-old improved to 14-5 on the season a day after winning the 1,100th Tour match of his career. he now plays Czech Tomas Machac, w winner over American Alex Michelsen 6-3, 7-6 (2).
