Djokovic missing from US Open promo poster

Novak Djokovic is nowhere to be seen on the promotional poster for next week’s US Open start.

The unvaxxed Serb who is currently not allowed entry into the US, is nowhere to be seen on the Batman-inspired poster, which features players including holder Emma Raducanu, Naomi Osaka and Serena Wlliams along with male competitors Rafael Nadal, NIck Kyrgios and Daniil Mdevedev looking skyward at the starts with the Manhattan skyline (Gotham City) in the background.

Djokovic is reportedly holding out hope that somehow laws will be changed by the weekend, allowing him to play.

He is apparently basing that on a change in the entry rules for Americans, who can, in fact, now cross the border without a COVID jab.

But nothing so far has changed for foreigners, who must still be vaccinated.

Unlike Tennis Australia which was desperate to get Djokovic in to play in Melbourne last January, the USTA has refrained from any lobbying of government to grant an exception to Djokovic, a three-time tournament champion in New York.
