Djokovic dominates to reach Adelaide semis

Novak Djokovic fired off his eight win without a loss against Denis Shapovalov, defeating the Canadian 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the Adelaide International on Friday.

The Serb set up a re-run of November’s title match in Turin at the ATP Finals where he beat Daniil Medvedev.

Djokovic needed less than two hours to impose his game on Shapo, breaking for 5-4 in the second set on the Canadian’s double-fault after saving three break points in the key game.

A game later, Djokovic came from 0-30 down to coast to the win.

“The scoreline doesn’t give a true indication of what happened, it was a tight match,” Djokovic said.

“It was such a close match – two hours for two sets. The first set was exhausting for both of us.

“We really pushed each other to the limit with long rallies.

“He had a couple of double-faults when I had 4-3 and the match turned around.

“I gained momentum and felt relaxed on court. I stayed composed and was able to play my best tennis.

“I’m pleased with how I fought tonight.”

Djokovic has now won 21 of his last 22 matches dating to last autumn. He leads Medvedev 8-4 in their series.
