Novak Djokovic turned in a routine 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Cristian Garin on Monday with any upset hopes of the Chilean dashed in less than two hours on court.
Djokovic will be playing his 12th quarter-final here after sending off the Centre Court debutant with nine aces and 28 winners; Garin managed 14 winners but had 26 unforced errors
“I’m delighted to see more fans on court today,” Djokovic said in anticipation of Tuesday when 100 per-cent capacity will be allowed by health authorities in a mass experiment on COVID spread.
“My confidence is very high after winning Roland Garros, but making the adjustment from clay to grass is not easy.
“But that title gave me wings and the boost I needed for Wimbledon.”
Djokovic will be competing in his 50th Grand Slam quarter-final. The Serb next plays Marton Fucsovics who beat Andry Rublev
