Novak Djokovic is now considering getting vaccinated against Covid-19, according to reports from Europe.
But it is not to protect himself and others – the driving force seems to be Rafa Nadal’s record 21st Grand Slam victory in Melbourne last week.
The world No. 1’s biographer Daniel Muksch has told Austrian TV Djokovic has changed his mind over vaccinations and claimed claimed the Spaniard’s win in Melbourne was the trigger behind the move.
“From what I have heard from those around him, I think he is getting vaccinated,” Muksch said on Austrian TV station Servus TV.
“Maybe the final in Melbourne also contributed to that. Rafael Nadal’s 21 is driving him, no question.”
If the reports are true, Djokovic could play the two Masters 1000 tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami next month.
Meanwhile, Serbian government officials have rejected reports that Djokovic used a fake positive test for Covid to gain entry into Australia last month.
The State prosecution office said yesterday it had received a request for criminal proceedings against unnamed individuals who allegedly forged two PCR certificates, which were later used by Djokovic to apply for a medical exemption.
“The prosecution acted according to the regulations, checks were performed, and it was determined that Novak Djokovic was tested several times and that the certificates on the test results from December 16, 2021 and December 22, 2021 are valid,” their statement said.
