Unseeded Grigor Dimitrov reached his second career semi-final at the Paris Masters on Friday as he knocked opponent Hubert Hurkacz from contention in the points race to the year-end ATP Finals.
The Bulgarian who reached the final four here in 2019 dispatched his Polish opponent 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in 97 minutes.
Defeat for Hurkacz ends his chances for a place in the eight-man Finals in Turin starting a week from Sunday.
Still alive in Paris quarter-finals are Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune, who both benefitted from the elimination of Hurkacz, provisional ninth in the points chase.
Hurkacz threw down 19 aces in his losing effort, but the steady Dimitrov ended up on top after 28 winners and just a dozen unforced errors.
Dimitrov won his 40th match of the season, repeating his achievement from 2017 when he ended 49-19 and finished third in the rankings.
