Novak Djokovic has drawn fire after posting a phone video of a brief hit-out on what authorities insist was meant to have been been a closed clay court in Marbella.
The world No. 1, who has been isolating with his family at the southern Spanish resort city, is shown having a hit with a partial lockdown due to the COVID-19 virus still on in the country.
Spain is one of the most affected countries in Europe; with the population in confinement since mid-March, some restrictions began being lifted on Monday.
But according to local media, the opening of tennis court has not been approved yet.
Accompanying the Djokovic Instagram post was the caption: “so happy to play on clay … well, just for a bit with my phone in the hands.”
Under the latest set of social distancing rules, pro athletes can train outdoors but tennis player are not yet allowed back on court – that is due to happen next week when sporting facilities re-open, according to the national tennis federation.
It was unclear whether the world No. 1 serb would be subject to any fine for slipping back into his sporting comfort zone.
