Demon destroys Travaglia for second round spot

Australian Alex de Minaur moved into the second round of the French Open, taking two hours and 28 minutes to overcome 78th-ranked Italian Stefano Travaglia 6-2 6-4 7-6(4).

And the ‘Demon’ needed to be at his best to overcome his 29-year-old opponent, despite easing into a first set lead after just 37 minutes.

The second set was tighter as Travaglia began his fightback but the Aussie held firm.

In the third Travaglia clawed back a break of serve to force it to a tiebreak before De Minaur fired an error to take the match.

The Australian will meet Marco Cecchinato in the second-round.

He was the second Australian to advance on third-day action, with Astra Sharma also achieving a straight-sets win.
