Defending champion Paula Badosa held off Sara Sorribes Tormo, 7-6(4), 6-1 in the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells on Monday.

Badosa, who is bidding to become the first woman to defend the Indian Wells title in over 30 years, was pushed all the way in the opening set as Sorribes Tormo saved five break points to force a tiebreak.

Badosa then upped her gear with a superb forehand to take the set in 81 minutes.

Tne second set was easier as Badosa kept up the pressure as Sorribes Tormo lost her way.

The No.5 seed will face either No.18 seed Leylah Fernandez or American Shelby Rogers in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
