Matteo Berrettini fired his eighth ace on match point to finish off a 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Alex de Minaur on Saturday to reach the Queen’s club final on his debut.
The Italian top seed has now played 30 games on the London lawns this week without losing serve; Berrettini will wait for an opponent as second seed Denis Shapovalov meets Brit Cam Norrie.
Berrettini dealt his Australian opponent a seventh straight defeat by a Top 10 player in the win which lasted 84 minutes.
The Italian finished with 13 winners and 15 unforced errors and has not lost a set all week.
“My goal this week was to win the tournament,” Berrettini isiad. “Now I’m just one step away.
“It’s a great achievement, especially given the history of this tournament.
“To win today I had to play my best tennis, I always go into a match thinking I can win it, I know I have a big weapon with my serve.”
