Australian No. 1 Alex de Minaur beat Pablo Carreno Busta 7-5, 6-4 on Saturday to follow up his impressive 6-2, 6-3 win over Pablo Andujar the day before as professional tennis made a welcome return in Spain.
De Minaur has been in quarantine in Alicante during the COVID-19 pandemic and is the only non-Spaniard involved in the tournament at the Cumbres del Sol Sports Club.
Playing under strict conditions at the clay court centre, matches were conducted with no fans and only an umpire overseeing proceedings – no line umpires or ball persons.
De Minaur gave up a break against Carreno Busta in the opening set, but bounced back to take the advantage and the first set, then went on to win the second in a solid performance.
He will face world No.12 Roberto Bautista Agut today (Sunday) with both remaining unbeaten at the Region of Valencia Tennis round-robin challenge.
