No. 63 Barbora Krejcikova on Friday became the lowest-ranked woman ever to reach a Dubai final as she set up a title showdown with Garbine Muguruza.
The Czech who just missed out last week on qualifying into the Doha WTA field, found her niche this week, running to the Saturday final without the loss of a set.
She claimed her spot opposite Spain’s double grand Slam champion with a 7-5, 6-2 defeat of Swiss Jil Teichmann, saving 10 of 11 break points.
Victory in one and three-quarter hours gave the 25-year-old Krejcikova the first WTA final of her career.
“There are so many emotions going through my mind right now,” Krejcikova said as she prepared to face the former No. 1.
“I’m looking forward so much to play her. She’s a legend and done so much. It’s going to be an amazing experience for me.”
