British teenager Jack Draper’s debut on the ATP tour ended in drama as he collapsed on court at 5-6 in the first set and was forced to retire in the Miami Open.
The 19 year old wildcard appeared to be struggling in the heat and had taken a medical timeout earlier in the set and had his blood pressure taken and his temperature checked but was allowed to continue.
Then at set point down to Mikhail Kukushkin he swayed and fell to the ground and needed further medical attention on court.
He was able to walk off court unaided with an ice pack on his neck.
Speaking later, the 19-year-old Londoner and former Wimbledon Junior finalist said he had tripped after feeling dizzy.
“I think the conditions got on top of me a little bit today and physically I just need to improve more,”
Draper also revealed he had coronavirus in January.
“I’ve got a lot to improve on but my level seems to be pretty close.”
