Fears of COVID-19 as cases of the virus start to increase in Western Europe have led to postponement of next month’s WTA outing in Linz.

The Upper Austria Open – first career title for US teen Coco Gauff last autumn – was to have been staged from October 12.

But that week is now off the table, with organisers hoping to be able to reschedule for November or even into December as part of a cobbled-together WTA emergeny calendar.

Also suffering the same fate is the event in Seoul, which will also need to find a new date.

“We would like to inform you that the Upper Austria Ladies Linz will not take place on the planned date … due to the pandemic,” Linz TD Sandra Reichel told the event’s website.

“Possible dates are from the beginning of November to the second week of December.”

The virus pandemic had already forced cancellation of both the ATP and WTA tournaments in Moscow next month.
