Cool Collins eases past Bonaventure as tennis returns to Melbourne

Former Australian Open semi-finalist Danielle Collins took 75 minutes to beat Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure 6-3 6-3 in the Yarra Valley Classic on Sunday, as the tennis began at last in Melbourne.

Collins was in control throughout the match, as was fellow Anerican Shelby Rogers, who beat Fiona Ferro 6-2, 7-5.

former World No.11 Anastasija Sevastova proved too strong for Madison Brengle, winning 6-4, 6-2 in 65 minutes.

Spain’s Aliona Bolsova was also among early winners, defeating India’s Ankita Raina, 6-3, 6-0.

Serbia’s Nina Stojanovic beat Egypt’s Mayar Sherif 6-3, 6-2.

Earlier, Former World No.4 Caroline Garcia ousted Australian wildcard Arina Rodionova, 6-3, 6-4.

“It was a lot of emotions to get back on court, finally,” Garcia said afterwards.

“I tried to stay very calm and play one point at a time, and I think I improved during the match, so that’s the most positive thing about today.”
