World No. 1 Ash Barty breezed through her opening round match against Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, winning 6-0, 6-1 on Monday evening.
“It’s felt like an eternity since I have been back on this court. I felt like it was [a] nice and clean [performance],” Barty said.
“It’s nice to be back on home soil and playing as well as I did tonight. It was a fun out there.”
Barty was in total control from the start, jumping to a 2-0 lead and then powering home to take the opening set.
The second set was similar fashion as Barty broke her opponent to go 2-0 before Tsurenko finally won a game at 5-1, but by then the result was inevitable.
