Iga Swiatek fell victim to 36 unforced errors and a case of nerves as the top seed lost 6-2, 7-5 to Zheng Qinwen as the Chinese entered the Paris Olympic medal round on Thursday.

January’s Australian Open finalist ranked seventh completed her semi-final shock in just under two hours, preying on the patchy game of the Pole.

Swiatek, who won her fourth Roland Garros title here just two month ago, lost for the first time in seven meetings to the 21-year-old spoiler.

Defeat ended a 20-match win streak on clay for Swiatek . Zheng came to the court running low on reserves after winning consecutive three-hour matches over Emma Navarro and Angelique Kerber which sent the 36-year-old German into retirement this week.

Swiatek lost serve six times as Zheng won her own 10th clay match.
