Former Wimbledon winner Pat Cash has revealed what looks to be a strong anti-vax stand with his complaints about pending WTA COVID-19 protocols designed to help players.
The 55-year-old who is currently coaching China’s 38th-ranked Wang Qiang let rip with a negative opinion of the Tour vaccination proposal.
“On a recent WTA conference call, I was shocked to hear strong pressure for vaccinations,” Cash posted on Twitter.
“No other option was heard, no information to the players and their teams on what the vaccine actually contains. They avoided talking about secondary effects.”
During a Twitter exchange, the outspoken Cash elaborated to a correspondent: “You’re incorrect the vaccines do not prevent you from getting Covid.
“WTA represents ALL members and must give unbiased info. 99% of teams i have spoken to don’t want but some have taken for travel etc. 99.98% of that age group recover from CV (coronavirus). WTA didn’t mention that either.”
By contrast, Serb player Filip Krajinovic proudly announced completion of his first shot in the two-step vaccination process.
Tabloid Blic reported that the No. 35 wants to complete his regime to be able to avoid repetitive weeks of tournament quarantine, a condition the ATP is trying to bring to reality with a push to get players onboard with vaccinations.
“I’m getting vaccinated, to make my life easier,” he said.
“I’m not against vaccines, they are the heritage that saved humanity from various plagues and there is no reason not to get vaccinated.
“it’s important for me not to be in quarantine when I go to a tournament, but to be able to behave normally and be calm.
“I have nothing against that protocol, I think it will make it a lot easier for us.”
Krajinovic is a good friend and practice partner of No. 1 Novak Djokovic, noted for his opposition to vaccinations.
Djokovic and his family organised last summer’s unmasked Adria Tour exhibition in the Balkans which resulted in positive COVID tests for himself, his wife and fellow players including Alexander Zverev and Grigor Dimitrov.
