Braveheart Murray refuses to consider retirement

Even deep into a morale-sapping slump, Andy Murray refuses to consider packing in his career, with the Scot lashing out at suggestions he wrap things up.

The 36-year-old was defeated in the Montpellier first round by noted tennis slacker Benoit Paire, the No. 112 who has not played  a Tour-level match since Roland Garros last May.

Murray has not won a match in three months since advancing to the second round in Basel and is flirting with a drop from the Top 50 after not winning two matches in a row in nearly a year.

But the three-time grand Slam champion is seemingly more determined than ever to prove the knockers wrong, posting a reply to a tweet which said he could be tarnishing his tennis legacy.

“Tarnishing my legacy? Do me a favour,” the former No. 1 wrote. “I’m in a terrible moment right now, I’ll give you that.

“Most people would quit and give up in my situation right now. But I’m not most people and my mind works differently.

“I won’t quit. I will keep fighting and working to produce the performances I know I’m capable of.”
