Boris a bust as short-lived Rune coach

Boris Becker has split with Holger Rune after three months as coach, with the German icon saying he did not have enough time to devote to the world No. 7 Dane.

The German is the second coach in just a few days to split from Rune camp, tightly controlled by the 20-year-old player’s mother.

Becker’s exit followed that last week of former Roger Federer mentor and Swiss Davis Cup captain Severin Luthi, who also left Rune in vague circumstances.

Becker tried to shoulder the blame for his departure:

“I would like to inform you that I will step down as the head coach of Holger Rune with immediate effect,” he posted on Twitter (X).

“We started this partnership with the initial goal to reach the ATP Finals end of last year but moving forward I realised that in order for this to be successful, I would need to be available for Holger much more than I can.

“Due to professional and private responsibilities, I can’t give Holger what he needs now.

“I wish him only the very best and I’m always going to be his n.1 fan. I truly appreciated this journey together. BB.”
