Berrettini takes instant revenge with Naples win

Matteo Berrettini took quick revenge for a loss in his last match, spanking  Roberto Carballes Baena 6-4, 6-2 just eight days after losing to the Spaniard in Florence.

Victory at the ATP Naples 250 event featured 36 errors from the winner, the 2021 finalist at Wimbledon.

The Italian remains theoretically in the season points chase for next month’s ATP Finals in Turin on provisional 15th.

Berrettini piled on 36 winners to seven for the Spaniard and was pleased with his showing in the south of the peninsula.

“This is outdoor, way warmer (then Florence) and I wanted to get revenge,” Berrettini said.

“I felt I had a lot of chances last week and it (the second-round loss) was tough to digest; it was really tough.

“But today I stepped on the court, I think with even more will to win this match, and I think I played better.”

Berrettini stands 15th in the race to Turin with this week plus two more to play in the regular Tour season.
