Matteo Berrettini has vowed to kick his run of injuries and front up healthy for the Australian ATP events in January.
The 2021 Wimbledon finalist has not competed since an ankle injury retirement in the US Open second round last August.
The 27-year-old is in Malaga with the Italian Davis Cup team, acting only as morale support for his comrades.
The one-time world No. 6 now standing 90th took the opportunity to spell out his plan of attack to return to the Tour and admitted that this season has been a drag on his morale.
His injury list also includes problems with his abdominal and a leg.
“I’m working hard right now to get ready. I love to play in Australia. I had great memories there, and it’s a swing that I always really like.
“That’s the goal, and I think it’s doable. So I’m working hard for that.”
The Roman admitted he’s been struggling mentally with his seemingly unending run of bad luck.
“When I was feeling something (pain) in my body, I was really struggling; mentally I wasn’t ready to face the challenge.
“It was really important for me to stop and think a little bit and take my time.
The the body and the mind, they go together
