The two-month WTA absence of Belinda Bencic can be explained after an announcement from the Swiss that she is expecting a child.
“Expecting our little miracle soon! We can’t wait to meet you,” Bencic posted on Instagram.
The 26-year-old ranked 14th will become a parent along with boyfriend and current fitness trainer Martin Hromkovic, a former Slovak footballer.
The WTA No. 14 exited in the US Open fourth in September and then lost in the first round of the new San Diego event.
The Olympic gold medalist then withdrew over the autumn from he Asian tournament swing and a Mexican 1000-level event in Guadalajara.
Bencic finished the season with a 31-13 record with titles in Adelaide and Abu Dhabi.
Though she made no announcement about her future on court, Bencic joins a growing list of tennis mothers including Elina Svitolina, Victoria Azarenka and Angelique Kerber, due back in action m Australia in January.
