The one break of serve came in the opening game against first-time finalist Struff, with Basilashvili holding on throughout for victory after winning eight of the first nine points..
The opening set was interrupted by rain, but Basilashvili came back and immediately regained concentration to claim the 35-minute opening encounter..
The 35th-ranked winner got through the week without losing a set as he played in his seventh final. The Georgian stands 14-2 on German clay after winning Hamburg titles in 2018 and 2019
“It wasn’t easy and I was super-tight at the end,” the winner said. “It was very difficult. It’s never easy playing Jan, he’s a very big fighter and serves really well.
“I’m super-happy. It seems like German conditions suit me. This is my fifth title and it will give me confidence for the upcoming tournaments.”
Basilashvili won his first trophy this season in Doha and joins Poland’s Hubert Hurkazc as the only two-time champions so far this season.
