World No. 1 Ash Barty made a successful return to Flushing Meadows on Tuesday, taking out 2010 US Open runner-up Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 7-6 (7).

A delay in play in the first set didn’t hinder Barty, as the Hawk-Eye electronic line-calling system went down when a TV camera wasn’t working.

“Just needed to make sure all cameras were spot on, and just, I think, plug one back in,” Barty said.

Then five minute delay didn’t thwart the Australian, who powered through the first set before Zvonareva made her fight for the second, and the match.

Next up for Barty is a second-round meeting with Danish teenager Clara Tauson.
