Top seed Ash Barty took mid-match treatment on a hip problem in Tuesday’s 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 defeat of Bernarda Pera but said she is determined to play through pain at the French Open.
“It’s going to be a little bit tough this week,” the top seed and champion in 2019 said after reaching the second round.
“Over the weekend there was a bit of a flare-up in my left hip, which needed a bit of help today, needed assistance to try and release it.
“But I was able to fight through, and get a chance to play again the next round.”
The WTA No. 1 said she would not “hide behind” her injury.
“I’m not going to hide behind the fact I’m not quite 100 per cent but I can guarantee that I will go out there with the right attitude every day and give it a crack no matter what.
“It’s going to be tough now without a doubt. I’m excited to be here, excited to play and have another opportunity to be playing in a Grand Slam.”
