Bad luck for Raducanu with Austin WTA pullout

Emma Raducanu has suffered yet another in a long series of disappointments, withdrawing from next week’s new WTA event in Austin due to tonsilitis.

The 2021 US Open winner who has barely registered on the Tour since her miracle run to a Grand Slam title while starting as a qualifier, made the call prior to the start in the Texas capital.

“I’m sorry to have to withdraw from the ATX Open,” the 20year old said.

“I’m currently suffering from tonsillitis and am unable to compete this week. Thank you to the tournament for the great hospitality here in Austin.”

Raducanu won a round at the Australian Open but has not passed the second round of a major since her miracle title nearly 18 months ago.
