Fans are set for a tentative return to the Australian open if no fresh COVID-19 cases pop up in the next two days.

Melbourne’s Herald-Sun reported on Tuesday that ministers made the call at a meeting after sending the Grand Slam into lockdown last Friday night for five days due to a handful of virus cases at a quarantine hotel.

Tuesday’s quarter-finals were being contested on the fourth day of the lockdown which forced irate and jeering fans from the stands at midnight on Friday during a heated match between Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz.
