Carlos Alcaraz on Saturday put himself in serious doubt for the US Open as the Spaniard rolled an ankle and could not continue with a training session.

The incident is similar to one suffered 24 hours earlier by defending champion Novak Djokovic, who was forced to end training early  after an unspecified physical problem.

Alcaraz has had nothing but troubles since playing the Olympic final against Djokovic, who claimed gold at age 37.

The third-seeded Spaniard skipped the Montreal tune-up event and lost last week in the first round at Cincinnati in what he called his “worst match” ever,

The race is on for the youngster to be fit for his Tuesday opening match in New York against Australian Li TU.

Alcaraz won the Open in 2022 as a teenager and lost in the semi-finals to Daniil Medvedev a year ago.
