Alcaraz dreams of more Spanish success in Paris

Carlos Alcaraz has set his sights on maintaining Spanish superiority at Roland Garros as the 20-year-old subs for missing Rafael Nadal in the Grand Slam lineup.

With the 14-time champion out for the count with his lingering hip problem from January, top seed Alcaraz is now a top target for allcomers in Paris when play begins on Sunday.

The youngster is coming off a third-round shock in Rome after claiming spring titles in Barcelona and Madrid.

Alcaraz laid out his hopes to Eurosport on the even of the major:

“This tournament is always special for the Spanish. I really want to do well and I really want to one day win this tournament,” he said.

“I remember last year that I played at a high level, I reached the quarter-finals (lost to Alexander Zverev).

“I come this year with a lot of desire, with a lot of motivation and having a lot of confidence.

Alcaraz added: “I’m playing at a high level in training and I feel very good. I think that this court and this tournament brings different sensations from others.”
