Andy Murray kept his career alive with another close-call doubles win with Dan Evans as the British pair advanced to the Paris quarter-finals 6-3 6-7 (8) 11-9 over Belgium’s Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen.
After saving five consecutive match points in the previous round, Murray’s side fought off another pair of match-winners in the latest success at Roland Garros.
The 37-year-old Murray, who has said the Games is his last event, broke down in “happy tears” amid scenes of celebration on court.
“You’re obviously unbelievably happy and then for whatever reason, I don’t know why it happens, it’s like happy tears,” the former No. 1 said. “I was really emotional at the end of the match.
“I was extremely happy, excited that we managed to get through.”
The Brits next go against the winners from American third seeds Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul and Dutchman Robin Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer.
Murray and Evans joined the all-star combination of Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal in the last eight after the Spaniards put out  Tallon Griekspoor and Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands 6-4, 6-7, 10-2.
