Jannik Sinner has voiced fears over his fitness for Roland Garros, with the Italian unwilling to give details of his reported hip injury as he sits out the Rome Masters.
The world No. 2 had to withdraw last week from his home Masters, but was more than sparse on details on exactly what is bothering him.
With three weeks and counting, his appearance in Paris also appears to be something of a question mark,
“I don’t want to say exactly what it is,” the reigning Australian open winner told local media at the weekend.
“If it’s not 100 per cent healed, I would be forced to stop playing for a long time.”
The 22-year-old also left is French Open hopes vague: “We still have to decide a few things for Paris… the preparation will not be optimal.
“My team and I will do our best to get there with as high a percentage as possible to compete.”
Sinner said that his team which features Australian uber-coach Darren Cahill, will need to develop a playing schedule which will keep him healthy.
“Next year, we will have to figure out whether to play Monte Carlo or not. In Madrid (last week) , there were days when I felt the pain a bit more, others when I didn’t feel it.
“I knew something was wrong. The day after the match with Khachanov (Wednesday May 1) we saw from the MRI that there was something that was 100 per cent wrong.
“I believe we did everything right. If I had to go back I wouldn’t know what I should have done differently.”
