Goran Ivanisevic is preparing for a comeback assault next season from a fully-fit Rafael Nadal, with the coach of Novak Djokovic especially concerned about the Spaniard’s chances at Roland Garros.
Nadal has not competed for 10 months and has suffered off court during 2023 with a variety of stubborn injuries. The 37-year-old is hoping to make it back for January’s Australian Open but is absolutely making no promises.
Former Wimbledon winner Ivanisevic, recovering this month from knee surgery, has put out the warning that Nadal will be all business once he’s back on court in 2024.
“I’m convinced Nadal will be fine, he wouldn’t come back if he didn’t feel ready, and I’m convinced he’ll be dangerous at Roland-Garros,” the Croat said..
“In fact, he’ll be the most dangerous because nobody has been as dominant as him at Roland-Garros.
“It’s possible that in the year of the Olympics, he’ll be aiming for the double crown in Paris.”
Ivanisevic added that the eventual return to action for Nadal is totally dependent on how he is feeling.
“It’s the best news for world tennis right now if he comes back. That’s all well and good, but we still have to wait for Nadal to say it.
“Only then can we be sure of a return and, at least for another year, the continuation of the great rivalry with Novak.”
