Caroline Wozniacki said on Friday she will not hold out unattainable goals but instead is taking her comeback to tennis at the US Open step-by-step.
“I can’t predict the future,” the 33-year-old Dane and mother of two said prior to the start of the Grand Slam on Monday in New York.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen in a year, I don’t know how long I’m going to play for.. a year, two years, three years.”
Nevertheless, the former No. 1 who launched her return this month in Montreal and moved onto Cincinnati last week is willing to give it a go at the Grand Slam where she played finals in 2009 and 2014.
“I realise that I’m not that young anymore. I’m 33. I’m just enjoying being here in the moment.
“I hope for a great tournament. I’m definitely planning on playing a lot more next year, playing more of a full schedule.”
Wozniacki said that after putting down her racquet following retirement after the Australian Open in 2020 and two subsequent pregnancies, her fitness is quickly returning to match-fit.
“With age, it takes a little more effort to recover and to make sure everything is in line. But I feel great right now.
“My body is cooperating at the moment. I’m very happy with that,” said the player who starts with a qualifier in the opening round.
“I have great people around me to also help me be in the best possible shape and be as ready as I possibly can for this event.”
