The surprise return of Mark Philippoussis two months after parting before Roland Garros from Team Tsitsipas may signify a change of direction ATP No. 5 Stafanos.
Former US Open finalist Philippoussis had served as a coaching consultant since 2020 in the “Greek mafia” family affair run by Tsitsipas’ father Apostolos.
The Aussie coach and his pupil are together this week on hardcourts in Los Cabos, Mexico for the ATP 250, with Apostolos nowhere in sight.
The surprise reunion between Greek speakers Philippoussis and Tsitsipas may mean that the player who turns 25 this month, is searching from some new direction.
Tsitsipas dropped a few hints recently:
“The more I grow older, it’s more challenging for me to train with my dad, but he’s the right person for me.
“We’ve different points of views, but he gives me different perspectives. It’s stressful at times.”
Childhood coach Apostolos is now expected to figure only during Grand Slams.
