Ailing Argentine Juan del Potro fears he may never step on a court again as the former No. 3 comes to grips with the looming injury end of his tennis career.
The 2009 US Open winner who has suffered for more than a decade with multiple wrist and knee problems, has been dreaming of making one final appearance at the upcoming edition of the Open in New York in August.
But the 34-year-old told Argentine website pagina12 that his dream is starting to fade away.
“I’m not happy watching Roland Garros on television, but I have no choice but to accept that I must find another path in life.
“I would like to step on the court one last time with the ability to compete with dignity and I prepare for it conscientiously.
“But my body does not give me signals that make me think that this is possible”.
Delpo admitted his years of on-again, off-again recovery and rehab have been more than frustrating.
“I was No. 3 in the world, I fell and broke my knee (four years ago this week at Queen’s Club, London).
“Since then, I’ve been trying to recover and talking to doctors to see how I can cure myself.
“All this makes me very angry – I wonder why this is happening to me.
“My greatest enemy has always been his own body,”
