Roger Federer is barely two months retired, but the Swiss icon has confessed that he is keen to play a few well-chosen exhibition matches.
But the 41-year-old told Italy’s La Gazzetta dello Sport that his problem knee – responsible for the end of his ATP career – is still not strong enough to allow him back into even informal competition.
He is apparently counting the days until he can seriously pick up a racquet again.
“I want to go and play in places I’ve never been and thank the fans who have supported me throughout my career,” the 20-time Grand Slam champion said.
“My intention is also to put on some exhibitions, but it’s still too early, unfortunately my knee isn’t there yet.”
Federer added: “It’s not in perfect condition and I have to be patient.
“The doctors have advised me to be careful and to wait a few months to see how the situation evolves.”
