Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini won his seventh straight match since last week’s comeback from hand surgery as the defending champion moved into the semi-finals at Queen’s Club on Friday.
The 10th-ranked Italian dispatched American Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-2, taking just 75 minutes on the London grass.
Berrettini returned barely 10 days ago after last playing in Indian Wells in March and has been on a grass-court year ever since.
He won the weekend Stuttgart title and stands two wins away from duplicating his Queen’s success of a year ago at the pre-Wimbledon showpiece..
The Roman will be playing his fourth semi at the ATP 500 level and stands 30-6 over his career on grass.
Berrettini won Stuttgart over Andy Murray to lift his third career trophy on the lawns. He will face off on Saturday against Botic van de Zandschulp, who beat Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-2, 6-4.
